Remembering the 2 days SE project

So as Nurul Hazirah's parents aren’t responding back to me until now i would sit and wait for it and talk about the weekend of the SE project as they gets back to me.

Furthermore, it was a wonderful experience for me since I knew a bunch about Malaysian society. Since i didnt speak up that much of the lunch we had we ate at that time in Lunch Nasi Kukus from UM's KK7 and it was really nice i have never tried eating malaysian food since i came to malaysia but i really liked it.

And i would truly like to give my group colleagues an Appreciation post in which they really helped me alot in both 2 days as i was really struggling to talk with my student (Hazirah) as she was the whole time she seemed scared of me and i would truly say that i really appreciate Ray's contribution in this project because he did all of his best to make that day one of the best day's i have been in Malaysia.

Follow up

It has been two weeks since me and Nurul Hazirah Maisarah saw each other. She didn’t solve anything since leaving her at that day and I tried contacting her parent's for the past 2 weeks but she doesn’t pick up the phone or answer my messages.

I really wanted to know why Hazirah wasn't using I-learnAce even though she was attracted to it and she seemed she had a competition with her friends to get better score so it really make any sense, she appeared to be extremely interested in it, she wished to enhance his rating and to comprehend it.

The were was a problem actually with what i faced with Nurul Hazirah is that she really didnt speak up that much she seemed shy talking in English so she used to talk with my colleagues instead in Malay and that was a breaking bond to try to teach her in that stage.

I would really like to end my blog this time with saying i wish i had something to do about the issue in which Nurul Hazirah's mother whatsapp so i could talk to her about Hazirah's work.

Day 2

On the second day, Again we planned to meet at 7.45 am at SK Bangsar. After we gathered with all the students we went to cafeteria to eat breakfast, the kids didn't want to eat rice like the day before so they asked for bread instead as rice was heavy on them at the morning.

After breakfast, we moved to an empty classroom unlike day one we used the computer lab but due to the lab being crowded we decided to use our laptops instead so the kids would be in more peaceful area. So we gave the kids an objective that they should create to know if they remember what we gave them so we asked them to create a mind map and present after 45 minutes of creating. So as Hazirah already know how to make mind maps she did very well she talked about the states in Malaysia, and i was helping her if she was confused how to add a video or a photo as its hard on her sometimes. And after finishing her mind map every student presented his mind map and everyone did great.

After the presentation, i asked her to do the assessment. I didn’t want to force her to take a test of a subject that she doesn’t want but actually she wanted to do all the subjects assessment's she was doing great in every subject getting above 80% but when i introduced the difficulty to her she was actually struggling so i told her just go easy on yourself just start with the difficulty that would suits you and then increase the difficulty slowly and thats what she did and by time goes she got in Science (Hard) 70% aswell as in Bahasa Melayu and in Math she got 90% but in English she was still struggling so she stayed with Medium in
English.

After Assessment, we had other activities like the other day so we split the students into two groups. In this game two groups are  competing against each other, each group sits in a circle and one of the students in the group goes to one of the coordinators and we will give him something that he has to describe what is it to his group(without talking) and they should draw it.

After, we moved to another game which is Heads Up, its a game in which someone holds a paper or phone that is written in it something and he doesnt see the phone while his group members can see and have to describe it to him. The game wasn't that great because there was a chaos and they were screaming at each other. Ofcourse i couldn’t stop it because of my language barrier but my colleagues (thank god) they handled it and it was under control.
Then, we went to the cafeteria to have our lunch.

After lunch, we chilled for a bit and we prayed just like yesterday.
Then, we moved again to an empty classroom to have another two activities. The first game was about two groups and every one in the group has to ask the other group a question and the other group ... i really don't understand the game so i was confused the whole time so i'm sorry if i couldn't talk in details about it ðŸ˜…

After the activities we move to last thing in ilearn, i teached her everything i just let her roam around the website and solve other tests or assessments , or create a new mind map. And lately, i let her know about the gaming branch in the site and she played the whole hour with her friends 😆 .

And lastly we asked the kids to write something for his coordinator and a feedback in our program (in separate papers).
Actually i don't understand anything but what my colleagues told me that she wrote some kind words to me and i appreciate that so much.

And in the end we asked the kids to sit in circle so we could say our goodbye to them and we gave them their presents

Plan

3 weeks before the project, we were assigned to make a group consisting of 10 people. The project was about teaching a kid about a certain website which is https://ilearnace.com, the website is a great appliance for the student as it teaches them in good manner of a way. So, we were teached first before going to the school about ilearn so that we wouldn't lack knowledge when we were teaching them. I was assigned to be with a 6 grader kid her name is Nurul Hazirah Maisarah and the School is SK Bangsar. I was so nervous about that project because of language barrier and im not good at manging a kid. And 2 weeks before the program started, we had a meeting in which we created a plan for how both 2 days would go in the school,  and everyone in the group contributed in suggesting how the day would go.

Day 1

We arrived to SK Bangsar at 7:40 am. 7 of us went with our colleagues car and others went by their own. The School is 5 minutes away from UM, so i guess we went little bit early than others ðŸ˜…😂.
The program was starting at 9:00 am so just like i said we came early so we were chilling until the kids would arrive to the school.

When it came time to gather my assigned kid i found out that she was changed to other kid so that made a mess for creating an ilearn account because you can only create 1 account with the given subscription code so i couldn’t change her id but i changed the old display name to the new assigned kids name.

After we gathered all the students we sat down to introduce ourselves and vice versa. After that we went to the cafteria to eat breakfast and chill for abit before our first task.

After we finished breakfast, we went to an open field to do our first entertainment activities which is a game about introducing yourself in a uninformal way so everyone gets to know each other. So, we sat in circle where a we (coordinator) and students sit beside each other and then someone will introduce themselves by saying his name, his ambitous and lastly makes an impression mark style . After, the person who is beside him will introduce himself in the same way plus repeating the impression style, and it goes on and on until all the circle is finished.

After the introduction game, we had some more entertaining activities such as radio broken and painting game. Radio broken is about passing information form one to another in an amount of 30 seconds we chose that game as we know that they will change the information on the way to front,  the same for the painting game we give a paper to each student and ask them to draw and they pass the paper to front.

After that, we moved from the open field to the computer lab so we can start teaching them ilearn.
From what I said earlier that my kid that ill be learning her name is Nurul Hazirah, and from what her friends said about that she was smart, so that made me more relaxed when teaching her. I started with changing her display name so she wouldn’t be stuck with the old display name of the other kid before her. Then, i started teaching how to create a note and translate using the billingual and trillingual dictionary. After, i teached her how to make a mind map (which was very critical) and to solve a test.  And then i told her to roam around inside the website and see what you can do with what i taught her.
She created a mind map of what english books she liked by her own with me assisting her.

And after we finished learning them Mind Maps we went over to lunch.

After finishing lunch, we chilled and wait for prayer. Lastly, It was time for another game which is called Go Green Box.In this game the box has inside it a dare the kids pass the box to each other until the music stops, the one who's holding the box will take a dare randomly and has to do it exactly as it says. And lastly the other game was a musical chair in which kids gather in a circle and the go round and when music stops they should run for a chair.

And then we waited for the kids to get picked up by their parents and we went to talk to their parents about ilearn and how to manage it and
that was the end of the first day 😃.
